PoWer Hour
Powerhour starts on February 26 through to March 19. Forms will be sent home on Friday, February 7 and are due on February 11.
Power Hour dates are as follows: Wednesday, February 26, March 5, March 12 & March 19 from 10:30 – 11:30.
Brain Games
with Mr. Depew
During this PoWer Hour, students provide their brains with a workout through puzzles, card games, sudoku, crosswords, riddles, and word searches.
Why is this important? It's all about sharpening your mind, having fun, and challenging your problem-solving skills.
After this PoWer Hour I can:
- Exercise creativity, patience, and focus.
- Expand vocabulary and wordplay.
- Boost focus and pattern recognition.
Melty Bead Magic
with Ms. Scoular
Do you like being creative and using your hands? Then this PoWer Hour is for you!
After this PoWer Hour I can:
- Be creative and make my own designs
- Follow directions
- Replicate designs, patterns, or pictures
- Recognize colours
- Use a pincer grasp
- Focus on tasks for longer periods of time
- Help others
- Clean up and organize materials
Comic Club
with Ms. Shevchuk
Do you like reading graphic novels and have always wanted to make one of your own?
In comic club we will work on our artistic and storytelling skills. We will create stories about our own characters and each make our own comic to take home at the end of the PoWer Hour.
After this PoWer Hour I can:
- create a story with a beginning, middle and end
- practice my fine motor skills

Speed Stacking
with Mrs. Warrener
Do you like to race and challenge yourself?
Then come join Speed Stacking !
in Speed Stacking, you’ll race to stack and unstack cups as quickly as you can. It’s a super fun way to get faster at using your hands and improve your focus!
Speed Stacking helps you get better at hand- eye coordination, concentration, and working as a team. Plus, it’s a great way to feel proud of yourself as you see how much you can improve!
After this PoWer Hour, "I can stack faster, focus better, and challenge myself to do my best!"
Mystery Box Challenge
with Ms. Martin
During this PoWer Hour, students will be provided themed mystery boxes . Inside these boxes are items that students need to think creatively about and how the items are related and what they could represent.
Why is this important? Encourages critical thinking, communication and problem- solving skills through imagination.
After this PoWer Hour I can:

- Use strong communication strategies
- Use critical thinking skills
- Expand my ability to problem solving
Dodgeball Intramurals
with Mr. Johnson & Mrs. Johnson
Are you into dipping, diving, ducking and dodging? Well, buckle up! This power hour is for you!
Why is this important? Dodgeball improves motor skills, teaches teamwork, encourages physical activity, and develops focus and quick thinking.
After this PoWer Hour I can:
- Collaborate and strategize with teammates
- Practice fair play, respect for opponents, and handling both winning and losing gracefully.
- Participate in active games that helps me feel capable and included.
Origami
with Ms. Konno
Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper into various shapes and figures.
The students will learn basic folding techniques and how to follow directions oral, written, and illustrative.
After this PoWer Hour, the students will be able to:
- Fold a figure using a sequence of an oral story
- Identify 2-D shapes as they fold the paper
OZOBOT Coding Robots
with Mrs. Palmer
During this PoWer Hour students will program Ozobots using color codes and Blockly.
Why is it Important?
It is important for students to learn problem solving, critical thinking skills to help them have more persistence and resiliency....plus it is FUN!
After this PoWer Hour I can:
- Code an Ozobot using color patterns and Blockly
- Use critical thinking and collaboration to solve problems
- Increase my digital literacy skills
- Improve my math and logic skills
- Be a cool Ozobot expert
Outdoor Winter Games
with Mrs. Goldie
During this PoWer Hour, students will play winter snow games outside in our school field and at the ridge.
Why is this important? Playing new games outside is good for our body and our mind.
After this PoWer Hour I can teach my friends new winter games to play outside.
Zentangling
Get ready to 'tangle with Miss Gilbank!
Students in this PoWer Hour will engage in mindful doodling and colouring, learning different zentangle patterns and putting them together to create unique art pieces of their own!
Fancy Printing
with Ms. Bronn
In this PoWer Hour, students will explore the art of hand lettering through cursive writing, calligraphy and other fun fonts.
Why is this important?
- Develops fine motor skills, patience, and attention to detail
- Enhances brain connections, improves reading skills, and sparks creativity
- Strengthens penmanship and builds confidence
After this Power Hour I can:
- Write my first and last name in cursive
- Express myself artistically through lettering and calligraphy
- Improve my fine motor strength and increase my hand-eye coordination
Beaded Animals
Have fun beading with Mrs. Manzer & Miss Sturgeon!!
During this PoWer Hour, students will …
- Learn techniques for creating cute beaded animals
