Winter Fest Family Evening

Our Winter Fest Family Evening will be on Thursday, December 12th from 6:30 – 8:00pm.  Families will have an opportunity to rotate through fun festive centers, while connecting with staff and other families.  As entry to this evening, we are asking for families to bring a donation of cereal boxes.  All cereal boxes will be donated to the food bank.  But, before donating the cereal boxes, students will create a giant domino chain with the boxes throughout the school. The more cereal boxes donated, the longer the domino chain! Let’s see how many boxes we can collect.

Book Swap December 3rd-10th: One of stations during Winter Fest will be a Book Swap. Students bring lightly used books in between December 3-10 and then, on December 12th, they can use the vouchers they are given to select books from the Book Swap.

Food Bank Drive

Along with our cereal box collection, we will be collecting non-perishable items for the food bank.  Items will be collected until December 20th.  Please help support this growing need in our city community.

Scholastic’s Book Fair

The Fair wound up last Friday.  It was one of the most successful Fairs that Prince of Wales has EVER hosted.  We realized sales of $5,279.18.  We blasted through our goal of $4,000 early on Friday morning.  Following the accounting with Scholastic, PofW will receive $2,333 in funds to purchase books for the library, to update our levelled reading collection, and ensure there are new and relevant chapter books for our older students.  Thank you!

Students were very excited to show their parents the books they were interested in. Our “Classroom Wish Lists” were well received, and each teacher received new books for their classroom libraries.  Thank you for supporting this worthwhile aspect of the Book Fair.

As always, these events aren’t held unless volunteers step forward.  I would like to thank my co-chairs, Marcia Birkigt and Samantha Teske.  Their role started back in October and went right through to take down of the Fair this past Monday morning.  We also had a wonderful group of parents (and one grandparent) who volunteered to staff the actual Fair.  Thank you for taking time from your busy schedules to help out.

Our next Fair is scheduled to coincide with Parent Conferences in March.  We look forward to seeing you “at the Fair” once again.
