Hello Prince of Wales Families,

We hope the first week back to school was a smooth one for you and your families. Students were excited to reconnect with their friends and classroom communities, and we were happy to welcome students back. It was a busy week for students with re-establishing routines and expectations after the break, participating in lunch time buddies, book exchange, observing the return of the eagles on the large screen in the Learning Commons, of course, engaging in some awesome learning!

Kindergarten Registration – Monday

Kindergarten Registration for the 2026-27 school year is underway on Monday, January 12. This is an exciting time for families, and we look forward to welcoming your children to our school community! Children are eligible for kindergarten in September 2026 if they turn five years old on or before Dec. 31, 2026.

Please view the information here to understand the process for registration: https://cbe.ab.ca/programs/kindergarten/Documents/Kindergarten-Registration-Guide.pdf

Please view this page to get started: https://cbe.ab.ca/registration/registration/Pages/default.aspx

Prince of Wales School will offer a “Welcome to Kindergarten” orientation this spring (May) for all confirmed and registered Kindergarten families.

Gymnastics Unit in P.E.

Next week, we will begin our gymnastics unit in our regularly scheduled physical education classes. This unit lasts 3 weeks. To begin this unit, we review safety procedures with each class. Students in elementary school are not expected to change for physical education. When participating in gymnastics, we ask students to be dressed and prepared to participate. We ask you to consider the following:

  • Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best).
  • Loose-fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing.
  • All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, etc...
Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Tying hair back with elastics (scrunchies) is recommended.
  • Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish.
  • Students continue to wear indoor running shoes (first preference). Students may also participate in bare feet or with gymnastic slippers.

Report Cards & Parent Resources

Report Cards will be available for viewing on February 24. The first report card reflects achievement of the outcomes taught throughout the reporting period. The CBE has published some helpful resources for parents around assessment that you can view here. Your child’s teacher is the best resource for you to connect with around assessment of your child’s learning. Parent Teacher Conferences in March are a formal opportunity to connect; however, please reach out with any questions in advance.

School Council – Thursday Evening at 6:30pm.

Please join us on Tuesday, January 15, 2026, at 6:30 pm. Brent Banack, the principal at Wilma Hansen, will attend to talk about his middle school and answer questions. All parents and guardians are welcome. We’d love to see you there, or online. A separate email will come out early this coming week with a link to the meeting, and other details.
