Lunar New Year

Wishing all our families who celebrate a very happy Lunar New Year.  This year celebrates the snake zodiac, a symbol of mysteriousness, wisdom, intuition and elegance. Prince of Wales’ staff wishes you great happiness and prosperity.

Indigenous Knowledge Keeper – Hal Eagletail

Students had the opportunity to work with Hal Eagletail this past week. Each class began their time with him by presenting him with a pouch of tobacco.  This is presented to thank Mr. Eagletail for being at our school and sharing his knowledge and wisdom. Mr. Eagletail shared stories and did some drumming for our students.  All students were very engaged and enjoyed their time with him.

 Power Hour Coming Soon

This year at Prince of Wales School, the staff will continue to share their interests and talents with our students in a program we have called “PoWer Hour”. PoWer Hour is designed like a university course.  It offers students an opportunity to explore different topics and develop cross curricular competencies such as to: think critically; identify and solve complex problems; identify and apply career and life skills; apply multiple literacies; and demonstrated good communication skills and the ability to work cooperatively with others.  The courses run in a multi-aged environment including students from more than one grade.  Teachers have designed courses in which they can share a passion of theirs with students.

Paper forms will be going home with students mid February for them to pick their top 3 choices.  We are always looking for volunteers to help out during these sessions.  If you are interested in supporting, please send Mrs. Gelfand an email.
