Hello Prince of Wales Families

It’s hard to believe September is nearly over. One of my favorite things to witness is picture day. The students sure looked spiffy – I can’t wait to see the proofs. Thank you to the volunteers who came to help.

Thank you to those of you who attended our Orange Shirt Day assembly, put on by the grade 4 team. The grade 4 students impressed us with their comfort to speak in front of a large audience and sang beautifully.

We are looking forward to another great week with the students. Please remember it is a short week with No Classes September 29/30. There will be no classes for students on September 29 (CBE system-wide Non-Instruction Day Day) and September 30 (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation). Classes will resume on Wednesday, October 1.

Scooter and Bike Safety

Warm weather means more scooters and bikes are coming to school. We need our friends on wheels to slow down on crowded pathways and sidewalks, and they should be wearing helmets too! Shockingly, many scooters and bikes are not being locked up so please make sure you check in with your child to ensure they’re following expectations and locking up their wheels.

Alberta Education Literacy and Numeracy Screenings

Students in Kindergarten - Grade 3 will once again be completing Provincial literacy and numeracy testing.

  • Fall screening dates for Grade 1-3 will be from September 15 to October 3, 2025.
  • Winter screening dates for Kindergarten - Grade 3 will be from January 19 to February 6, 2026.
  • Spring screening dates for Grade 1-3 will be from May 11 to 29, 2026.

Teachers will be working with students to complete these tests and will be able to use the data to help them with their classroom programming. 

Bus Reminders

We have been supporting the drivers in reminding children to stay seated while the bus is in motion and to keep hands to themselves. Thank you for reinforcing the message at home so we can ensure the students are staying safely in their seats.

If you are picking your child up instead of them taking the bus home, please ensure the office is aware.

Grocery Cards

Prince of Wales School & Friends of Parkland Way have partnered with FundScrip to help us fundraise for our playground revitalization project. Please see the attached letter to learn more.
